The short version
Both tools score Solana token risk on a 0 to 100 scale where higher means more dangerous — helpfully, the same direction, unlike the safety-scored checkers covered in our full rug-checker comparison. The difference is depth against breadth. RugCheck answers "does this token's current state look wrong?" instantly, for free, on unlimited tokens. DeFade answers "did the wallets behind this launch behave like ruggers?" — a slower, deeper question that covers the rugs specifically engineered to pass state checks.

Where they agree
The fundamentals are the fundamentals. Both tools check mint and freeze authority, LP burn and lock status, top-holder concentration, and metadata. Both surface insider-connected wallets. On a token that fails these basics, both will tell you loudly, and you do not need the deeper scan — the answer is already no. Where RugCheck wins
- Cost and volume. Free, unlimited, no account. If you check forty tokens a day, RugCheck is the tool for thirty-nine of them. DeFade's free tier is 3 scans a day.
- Ubiquity. Its API feeds half the Solana tooling ecosystem, its verification badges are a de facto standard, and every trading community recognizes its reports. Shared language matters.

Where DeFade goes deeper
Modern Solana rugs pass the basic checks on purpose. Launchpads revoke mint and freeze authority automatically; LP burns are standard; supply gets split across dozens of wallets so no single holder looks big. The token's state is clean by construction. What cannot be faked so easily is behavior, and that is where DeFade's 31 forensic modules point:
- Bundle detection with PnL. Were launch-block buys packed alongside the liquidity deploy? DeFade identifies the bundled wallets, then follows them: how much have they sold, transferred away, or forwarded to fresh wallets that dumped. "Insiders hold 30%" and "insiders already exited through intermediaries" are different trades.
- Funding-origin tracing. Fifty holders that look unrelated but were all funded from one wallet, several hops upstream, through intermediate transfers — a state snapshot sees fifty strangers; a funding trace sees one owner. This is the single most common disguise in coordinated insider launches.
- Deployer history. The wallet that launched this token: how many tokens has it launched before, and how did those end? A deployer whose last five launches died in hours tells you more than any attribute of the current token.
- Dev wallet behavior, live. Minting supply to yourself is not the same as buying your own token, and a dev wallet quietly transferring out to unmarked wallets is the pre-rug signature. DeFade tracks it as it happens.
- Beyond Solana. The same behavioral analysis runs on Ethereum, Base and Robinhood Chain, where contract risk and wallet behavior both matter.
The honest caveat: depth costs.
