The Best Solana Rug Checkers in 2026, Compared Honestly

Full disclosure up front: DeFade is our product, so we have an obvious interest in this comparison. We are writing it anyway because the honest answer to "which rug checker should I use?" is more interesting than a sales page — every tool on this list catches things the others miss, several of them are genuinely excellent, and the right answer for most traders is a combination, not a single winner.

What follows is what each tool actually checks, where each one is strongest, and where each one goes blind. Where a tool beats DeFade at something, we say so.

Score directions are not standardized. RugCheck and DeFade score risk — a high number is dangerous. SolSniffer and Token Sniffer score safety — a high number is clean. A "90" means opposite things on different tools, and misreading the direction gives you exactly the wrong answer. Check which way the scale runs before you act on any number.

RugCheck — the community standard

RugCheck is the default rug checker for most of Solana, and it earned that position. It is free, fast, covers the fundamentals well — mint and freeze authority, LP lock and burn status, top-holder concentration, metadata mutability — and its Insider Networks graph surfaces wallets connected to the deployer. It also runs a public API that half the trading bots on Solana quietly call under the hood.

Strongest at: instant fundamentals on any Solana token, zero cost, ecosystem ubiquity. If you only ever run one free check, this is a fine one.

Blind spots: it is Solana-focused (plus Fogo), and its checks are mostly a snapshot of the token's current state. Whether launch-block buyers were bundled from one funding source, whether the deployer rugged three tokens last week, and whether the "distributed" top holders all trace back to one wallet a few hops upstream are questions a state snapshot cannot answer. DeFade — behavioral forensics (ours)

DeFade is built around a different question. Not "what does the token look like right now?" but "what did the people behind it actually do?" A scan runs 31 forensic modules across four chains — Solana, Ethereum, Base and Robinhood Chain — and condenses them into a rug probability score from 0 to 100, higher meaning more dangerous.

The modules that separate it from state-snapshot checkers: launch-block bundle detection with profit-and-loss per bundle (did insiders already exit?), multi-hop funding-origin tracing (fifty "unrelated" holders funded from one wallet three hops upstream), deployer history (how many tokens has this wallet launched, and how did they end?), dev wallet tracking (minting to yourself is not buying), sniper bot detection, insider network mapping, and smart-money flow. Strongest at: the rugs that pass every basic check — revoked authorities, burned LP, tidy holder chart — because the setup work happened in wallet behavior, not token state.

Blind spots: the free tier is capped at 3 scans a day (the first scan of the day runs the full Pro analysis; after that, scans cover the 14 core modules), so unlimited-volume free checking is RugCheck's territory. Chain coverage is four chains, not fifteen — if you trade Polygon or Arbitrum memecoins, Token Sniffer or GoPlus covers you and we don't.

SolSniffer — the Solana-native composite score

SolSniffer assigns every SPL token a Snifscore out of 100 — higher is safer — built from 20+ indicators covering contract state, liquidity and holder metrics. It launched in early 2024 as a Solana-first scanner and offers its data through a paid API aimed at apps and trading tools.

Strongest at: a clean one-number read on a token, fast, with free one-off scans on the site. The single-score UX is genuinely good for a quick sanity check.

Blind spots: Solana only, and a composite score compresses away the evidence. Two tokens can share a Snifscore for very different reasons, and the difference is usually the trade. Academic testing of automated scanners (including tools in this class) has also found they lean toward flagging aggressively, which catches more rugs at the cost of false positives on legitimate new tokens.

Token Sniffer — the EVM contract auditor

Token Sniffer, run by Solidus Labs, is the veteran of automated contract auditing: tens of millions of tokens monitored across 15 chains, free to use, with a safety score where 100 is clean. It automates the checks a Solidity auditor would do first — honeypot mechanics, hidden mint functions, ownership traps, fee manipulation — and matches contracts against a large database of known scams.

Strongest at: EVM contract risk. On Ethereum-style chains, where the scam usually lives in the contract code, this is exactly the right first check. Its breadth of chains is unmatched among free tools.

Blind spots: contract analysis has structurally little to say on Solana, where nearly every memecoin is a standard SPL token with no custom code at all — there is no contract to audit, so every pump.fun token passes by construction. GoPlus — the security data layer

GoPlus is less a rug checker than the security data backbone many other tools are built on. Its APIs return structured risk flags — token contract risks, honeypot detection, malicious addresses, risky approvals — across a long list of chains, with a free tier, plus a browser extension and app for end users.

Strongest at: developers building safety features into their own products. If you need programmatic contract-level flags across many chains, this is the pragmatic choice.

Blind spots: it hands you flags, not a verdict — you assemble the judgment yourself. And like all contract-centric tooling, it reads the code and the liquidity, not the wallet behavior around the launch.

Bubblemaps — see the clusters

Bubblemaps visualizes token holders as connected bubbles, making wallet clusters visible at a glance. It does not score anything; it shows you the supply structure and lets you draw the conclusion. When a "healthy" holder list renders as one giant connected blob, you have your answer.

Strongest at: communicating holder concentration instantly — nothing beats it for showing someone else why a token is suspicious. Multi-chain, free for the basics.

Blind spots: it is a lens, not an analyst. No score, no launch forensics, no deployer history — you still need to know what a bad map looks like, and clusters that connect through several intermediate hops or off-map funding paths are easy to miss visually.

What about DexScreener and Birdeye?

Both are market-data platforms first — price, volume, liquidity — with basic audit info bolted on. They are where you watch a token, not where you vet one. Treat their audit badges as a first glance, not a clearance.

Which one should you actually use?

The honest summary: state checkers (RugCheck, SolSniffer, Token Sniffer, GoPlus) answer "does this token look wrong right now?" cheaply and at scale. Behavioral forensics (DeFade, and manual work with Bubblemaps plus a block explorer) answer "did the people behind this token behave like ruggers?" The first kind filters the obvious; the second kind catches the rugs engineered to pass the first kind.
